The Uttarakhand tourism department has announced the commencement of online registrations for the revered ‘Char Dham Yatra‘ on its official portal. Pilgrims eager to embark on this spiritual journey can now register themselves on the website from April 15 onwards.
The Char Dham Yatra in Uttarakhand is a pilgrimage that encompasses visits to four sacred temples: Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. Each of these temples holds immense significance in Hinduism.
Scheduled to commence on May 10, this year’s Char Dham Yatra will kick off with the opening of three of the four shrines: Gangotri, Yamunotri, and Kedarnath. The doors of the revered Badrinath shrine will open to pilgrims on May 12.
Highlighting its importance, District Magistrate Himanshu Khurana recently visited the Badrinath Dham to oversee preparations for the upcoming Yatra. He emphasized the completion of essential tasks such as sewer line repairs, improvement of internal routes, provision of water and electricity, installation of street lights, and adequate vehicle parking. Signage for passenger convenience was also stressed upon.
Traditionally, the high-altitude shrines remain closed for around six months each year, reopening in the summer (April or May) and closing with the onset of winter (October or November).
According to Hindu tradition (Sanatan), completing the Char Dham Yatra in a clockwise direction is considered auspicious. Thus, the pilgrimage commences from Yamunotri, proceeds to Gangotri, continues to Kedarnath, and concludes at Badrinath.
While the journey can be undertaken by road, helicopter services are also available for those seeking a faster and more convenient travel option. Additionally, some devotees opt for a ‘Do Dham Yatra,’ focusing on visits to two shrines: Kedarnath and Badrinath.
The Char Dham Yatra serves as a spiritual odyssey for countless devotees, drawing pilgrims from far and wide to seek blessings and immerse themselves in the divine aura of these sacred sites.
