Law Enforcement Seizes Liquor, Drugs, and Cash Worth Rs 322 Crore During Election Campaigns in Uttar Pradesh

During the ongoing election campaigns in Uttar Pradesh, law enforcement agencies have made significant seizures of illicit goods, including liquor, drugs, and cash, worth a staggering Rs 322 crore. Chief Electoral Officer of the state, Navdeep Rinwa, disclosed on Friday that from March 1 to April 25, various agencies including Excise, Income Tax, Police, and Narcotics Department have been relentless in their efforts to curb illegal activities.

Rinwa highlighted that on Thursday alone, these agencies confiscated goods worth Rs 127.51 lakh, comprising cash, liquor, and drugs. This recent haul included Rs 13.93 lakh in cash, 18,628.60 litres of liquor valued at Rs 49.95 lakh, and 193,367.70 grams of drugs valued at Rs 63.62 lakh, along with other items.

One notable seizure occurred in the Marihan assembly constituency of Mirzapur district on April 25, where 1,52,000 grams of drugs worth Rs 38 lakh were seized, indicating the extent of illegal activities being perpetrated.

The cumulative seizures from March 1 to April 25 amount to a staggering Rs 32,281.70 lakh, encompassing various illicit items such as cash, liquor, drugs, precious metals, and other materials. This includes Rs 3,181.54 lakh in cash, Rs 4,435.47 lakh worth of liquor, Rs 21,346.72 lakh worth of drugs, Rs 2,161.59 lakh worth of precious metals, and Rs 1,156.39 lakh worth of other materials.

These efforts come in the wake of the announcement of Lok Sabha General Elections 2024 by the Election Commission on March 16, 2024. With the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, authorities are striving to ensure free, fair, peaceful, fearless, inclusive, and secure voting across the entire state of Uttar Pradesh.

Law enforcement agencies continue their vigilant operations to maintain the integrity of the electoral process and safeguard the democratic rights of the citizens amidst the electoral fervor gripping the state.
