In a recent development, Bhupesh Baghel, the former Chief Minister of Chhattisgarh and current Congress candidate for the Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha seat, has strongly criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s remarks, suggesting that Modi’s mental health may be disturbed. Baghel’s comments come in response to Modi linking the Congress manifesto to a statement made by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in 2006 regarding minority rights to resources.

Baghel expressed concern over Modi’s statements, stating that they indicate a disturbed mental state and lack of balance. He emphasized the need to consider the full context of Singh’s statement rather than selectively focusing on one aspect. Baghel refuted Modi’s claims about the Congress manifesto, clarifying that there is no mention of distributing Hindu women’s jewelry or favoring any particular community.
Regarding the upcoming elections in the Rajnandgaon constituency, Baghel acknowledged the challenge posed by the BJP’s stronghold but affirmed his commitment to contesting the elections and expressed confidence in the Congress’s ability to win.
The Rajnandgaon Lok Sabha constituency is set to vote on April 26, 2024. The main contenders in this election are Santosh Pandey of the BJP, who won the previous election, and Bhupesh Baghel of the Congress.
Baghel highlighted three key issues he is addressing in his campaign. Firstly, he mentioned the disappointment felt by many after the Congress failed to form the government in Chhattisgarh despite significant progress during its previous tenure. Secondly, he criticized the BJP’s policies that he claims are contributing to unemployment and rising prices. Lastly, he pointed out the widespread concerns about inflation and unemployment among the public, suggesting that these issues are driving support for the Congress’s Nyay manifesto.
Baghel also commented on the BJP’s election campaign, noting a shift in their rhetoric from aiming for a landslide victory to more tempered expectations. He cited unfavorable reports from various states as a sign of potential trouble for the BJP.
Polling for the Lok Sabha in Chhattisgarh is taking place in three phases, with the remaining constituencies scheduled to vote on April 26 and May 7. In the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 9 out of 11 seats in the state, while the Congress secured only 2 seats.
Baghel’s critique of Modi’s statements and his confidence in the Congress’s prospects indicate a heated electoral contest in the Rajnandgaon constituency, with both parties vying for victory amidst broader national political dynamics.
