In its recently unveiled election manifesto titled ‘Sankalp Patra’, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has made a significant commitment to pursue permanent membership for India in the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

The BJP manifesto, presented ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, highlights the party’s determination to elevate India’s global position by securing a permanent seat in the UNSC. This move is aimed at better representing the interests of the developing world on the international stage.
India’s aspiration for a permanent seat in the UNSC has long been advocated to ensure its voice is heard in crucial global decision-making processes. The BJP’s manifesto highlights the nation’s growing momentum in garnering support from the international community for its bid.
The UNSC, composed of 15 member states, currently includes five permanent members with veto power, namely China, the United Kingdom, France, Russia, and the United States. The remaining ten members are elected for two-year terms.
In addition to seeking UNSC membership, the BJP manifesto outlines plans to expand India’s diplomatic missions worldwide to advance its global interests. The party also promises unwavering support to the Indian diaspora and vows to fortify connections with them.
On the foreign policy front, the BJP pledges to promote India as a trusted global partner and a first responder in times of need. The manifesto emphasizes India’s commitment to regional cooperation, stability, and prosperity in the subcontinent.
Furthermore, the BJP commits to continue efforts in combating terrorism, including advocating for the Comprehensive Convention against International Terrorism. The party also aims to enhance coordination in countering terrorism financing through initiatives like the ‘No Money for Terror’ conference.
In terms of regional security and growth, the BJP plans to collaborate with Indo-Pacific countries and boost connectivity through initiatives like the India-Middle East-Europe Corridor.
The BJP’s election manifesto, launched under the tagline “Modi ki Guarantee,” focuses on development, women’s welfare, and a roadmap for a developed India.
The manifesto, unveiled in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other senior party leaders, reflects the culmination of extensive consultations with the public. The BJP received over 1.5 million suggestions, demonstrating a participatory approach to governance.
As India gears up for the Lok Sabha polls scheduled from April 19 to June 1, with results expected on June 4, the BJP’s manifesto underscores its vision for India’s role in global affairs and its commitment to inclusive development.
