Iran Warns of ‘Decisive Response’ to Israeli Military Actions at UN Meeting

During a session at the United Nations Security Council, Iran’s Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, issued a stern warning to Israel, cautioning against any further military actions targeting Iranian interests. He emphasized that Iran had completed its “defense and counteroffensive measures” and urged the international community to intervene and prevent Israel from conducting military operations against Iran.

Amir-Abdollahian asserted, “Iran’s legitimate defense and countermeasures have been concluded. Therefore, the Israeli regime must be compelled to stop any further military adventurism against our centers, assets, and interests.” He further stated that Iran would not hesitate to respond decisively if Israel violated its sovereignty.

The Iranian Foreign Minister accused Israel of launching a missile attack on Iranian diplomatic premises in Damascus on April 1, which he deemed a clear violation of international law, including the United Nations Charter and the Vienna Convention.

Expressing disappointment with the lack of response from certain countries, Amir-Abdollahian criticized the United States, the United Kingdom, and France for failing to condemn the attack on the Iranian diplomatic premises. He also accused the Security Council of inaction despite Iran’s repeated requests for intervention to prevent further Israeli attacks on Iranian interests.

Referring to Iran’s recent military action on April 13, reportedly targeting Israeli military bases in response to attacks on Iranian interests, Amir-Abdollahian justified the move as necessary and proportionate under international law. He emphasized that Iran’s attack focused solely on military targets and was conducted with consideration for civilian safety.

In response to Iran’s actions, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to prioritize Israel’s security above all else, even if it meant disregarding advice from allies. Netanyahu made this statement following meetings with foreign ministers from the UK and Germany, where they reportedly offered suggestions and advice.

Israel’s Defense Forces spokesperson, Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari, stated that the majority of projectiles launched by Iran towards Israel were intercepted by air defenses, highlighting Israel’s preparedness and technological superiority.

As tensions escalate between Iran and Israel, the international community continues to monitor the situation closely, with concerns over the potential for further escalation in the region.
