Navaratri, a festival symbolizing the divine power of nine goddesses, serves as the perfect backdrop for this cultural extravaganza. Each day of Navaratri is dedicated to honoring a different form of the goddess, making it a fitting time to celebrate the feminine divine through music and dance.

The inauguration of the Shakti festival commenced today at the revered Kamakhya Temple in Guwahati, Assam. From there, the festivities will travel to six other Shaktipeeths located in Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Tripura, Gujarat, Jharkhand, and Madhya Pradesh, culminating at the Shaktipeeth Maa Harsidhi Temple in Ujjain on April 17th, 2024.

The festival, organized under the series of Kala Pravah (कला प्रवाह), aims to rejuvenate and promote the diverse performing arts heritage of India. Sangeet Natak Akademi, as the national academy of performing arts, has long been dedicated to preserving and promoting various art forms including music, dance, drama, folk, tribal, and allied art forms.

By bringing together artists, performers, and enthusiasts from across the country, the Shakti festival promises to be a vibrant celebration of India’s cultural richness and spiritual heritage. It offers an opportunity for attendees to immerse themselves in the mesmerizing rhythms of classical music, the graceful movements of traditional dance, and the spiritual ambiance of sacred sites.

Through events like the Shakti festival, Sangeet Natak Akademi continues its mission of fostering appreciation for the performing arts while also honoring the profound cultural legacy of India’s temple traditions. As the nation embraces the spirit of Navaratri, this festival serves as a reminder of the enduring power and beauty of our cultural heritage.
