In a significant move, the US House of Representatives has passed a foreign aid package worth $95.3 billion, aimed at supporting allies including Ukraine and Israel. The package, which includes substantial military assistance, garnered separate votes of approval from lawmakers.

Expressing gratitude, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy thanked the US House of Representatives and Speaker Mike Johnson for their decision, emphasizing the importance of democracy and freedom on a global scale. He highlighted the pivotal role of US aid in preventing the expansion of war and saving lives, while also strengthening both nations.
Zelenskyy hailed the passage of the aid package as a crucial step, highlighting the leadership shown by the US since the onset of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine. He emphasized the need for such leadership to uphold a rules-based international order and ensure predictability for all nations.
The aid bill allocated $60.8 billion to Ukraine, with a significant portion directed towards assisting Kyiv in its ongoing conflict with Russia. Additionally, a forgivable loan of $9.5 billion was included in the package to further support Ukraine’s efforts.
However, the passage of the bill was not without opposition, with Republicans voting against it. Despite this, many Democrats celebrated the decision, waving Ukrainian flags in support.
Meanwhile, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu also expressed gratitude to the US House for passing the aid bill, emphasizing the strong bipartisan support for Israel. The aid package for Israel includes approximately $17 billion in direct military assistance and over $9 billion in humanitarian aid for Gaza and other conflict-affected areas.
While the aid package for Israel was met with overwhelming approval, there were dissenting voices, including Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and other members of the “Squad,” as well as Representative Bob Good Freedom Caucus members.
The passage of these aid packages comes at a critical time, as both Ukraine and Israel face ongoing challenges and conflicts in their respective regions. The support from the US House of Representatives signifies a commitment to strengthening ties with these allies and promoting stability and security in the face of adversity.
